USS Belknap

The USS Belknap is a non-canon design that is from the book Ships of the Star Fleet, Vol. 1 published by Mastercom Data Center. I always like the not quite Enterprise look of the Belknap and I thought a model would really cool. So after thinking about what to do with my left over 1/2500 scale parts, I went to work.

Putting it together

I had to make my own decals for this ship, like with the Ptolemy, Saladin, and Baker. I just used a graphic that was available on the net for my template, and I made all the names and numbers for the ship. If I have the graphics expertise that some of the decal vendors out there have, I'd probably make all my own decals. But I am just a small time guy, so I can only do a few.

It was a pretty simple model to build. You can see that I just re-arranged parts from the 1/2500 scale Enterprise model. I also extended the warp nacelle pylons and the part that connects the secondary hull to the saucer. The deflector on the bottom isn't exactly high quality, but it works for what I wanted. If I could do it over, I'd try to find something better to put there.

It was a fun little ship to build and a good addition to the 1/2500 scale fleet. There was a larger version released at the big sci-fi model show Wonderfest a couple years back, and I'm planning on making that some day. I just need to get the parts out to make it.
