General Dynamics F-111F Aardvark

This is the General Dynamics F-111F Aardvark, a fighter-bomber designed in the late 60's. The plane was originally part of the Tactical Fighter Experiment, which was intended to provide one plane to the Navy and Air Force. That plan failed, but the Air Force managed to get a pretty decent plane out of the process.

I built this plane when I was at the Air Force Academy, and my work space was limited. I managed to do a decent job with what I had to work with. I had a cheap air brush, limited tools, limited work space, and not a lot of time. But it turned out pretty well, and my friends though it looked pretty nice.

Its a Hasagawa model, and they make nice models. I used some weapons from my spares box, since the model didn't come with any. (Or at least any good ones, I can't quite remember.) I went off the paint scheme that came with the instructions. I think it's a paint scheme from the old TAC days, but I'm not too sure. I don't really do a lot of research when I build models. I just like to make something that looks good.

Showing it's age

Of course, this model is now like 10 years old, and it shows it's age. I think the wings have come off more than once, the missiles have come off, the pitot tube is missing... You know, stuff like that.

This one is dead. One too many moves. But it has provided me with lots of spares for other projects that I may eventually get to. It was a good model for it's time, though.
