Monogram F-19 Stealth Fighter
I'v always liked the Monogram F-19 Stealth Fighter. It may have not had the sales that the Testors one did, but it just looks cooler to me. For those of you unfamiliar with the whole F-19 thing, here's the short version. When rumors that a stealth plane existed, two model companies made 'top secret' models to try to drum up sales. The Testors model took off, and took the title for most sales. Soon after Monogram made a version, but it wasn't as popular. I happen to like this version more, so I got one on eBay and added it to my Stealth line.
This model was a snap together model, so it is pretty simple. I used some of the pegs to hold it together, but all seams got some glue and were filled in. It tured out pretty well, and was a quick build too. Painting was pretty straight forward too. I found a model online that I based my paint scheme off of, which is a Dark Euro Gray I on top and Light Ghost Gray on the bottom. I used Jet Exaust on the back, and on the little intakes on the bottom too.
Decals for the model were pertty cheasy, so I picked up some F-16 decals. I didn't really see the need for a lot of markings, so I kept them pretty sparse. The only problem was the kit decals were pretty crappy. They were very thin, which is surprising for a snap model. I should have sprayed some extra decal film over them and trimmed them down really close to the markings to get the best effect. But I wasn't really looking to get it super sharp, and I can always go back and re-finish it at some other time if I feel motivated.
Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out. It's a nice little addition to the Stealth family.
