Miniatures
These are some old metal miniatures from FASA. They were designed to be collector items and to be used in their starship combat simulator game. I have had these little things for almost 15 years. I had them packed up and out of the way for quite some time. I finally decided to take them out and repaint some of them.
I used to have a couple dozen, but I decided to trash most of them. They just weren't that high quality and they didn't look that neat. The ones I kept are my favorites.
Of course, leaving them in storage for so long left them a little worse for wear. I had to completely repaint the two on the right side, and the two on the left I just touched up. I know the Bird of Prey is colored all wrong, but I liked the paint scheme and I decided to keep it.
The one on the far left is supposed to be a Gorn ship. I had to make the engines myself since the package didn't have any in it. I made them back in junior high, so I think they turned out pretty well.
The tan and blue one is supposed to be a Romulan ship. I liked the shape and I actually managed to do a pretty good paint job on it 12 years ago. The model actually isn't symetrical. There is one more feather on one side. Pretty big mistake for a comercial mini.
The middle right one is supposed to be a Klingon design. I had to totally repaint this one. I stripped off all the paint, carefully broke all the super-glued pieces apart, re-assembled it, and repainted it. The paint scheme is the same as my original one, but done with 12 years worth of extra skill.
I had to do the same to the Bird of Prey on the right, but the pieces didn't all come apart. I got enough apart to get it clean and repainted, so it turned out fine. It's now dead though. The cat got to it. Note to cat owners: If your cat doesn't play with your models now, it will soon. Keep them out of reach!
I enjoyed going back to these old favorites. They cancelled the line a long time ago, but I though there were some pretty neat designs. FASA lost the Star Trek license way back around 1990, so it's been ages since these have been made. You might get luck and find them on eBay, but don't keep your hopes up. I have since given up on mine. They got broken too many times and just didn't survive the many moves from the Air Force.
